Post Project Reflection

1) The effects I want to have on the viewer are a sense of happiness and light heartedness.  Even though people might not know much about Greeklife at Miami, I hope they view my video as fun and can see from my pictures and my explanations that I love Greek life.  I also hope they learned from my video and know more about Greek life now that I have explained it a little bit.  I think it’s always good for an audience to be able to relate to a certain part of the presentation and I think since I explain reasons TO and NOT to rush, the audience should be able to identify with one of them.

2) I went about achieving my intended effects by putting fun pictures into my video and upbeat music in the background.  I think music is the main component of making something sad or happy.

3) The rhetorical moves I made in my video were comparison, colors, sound, and images.  I have a lot of images in my video and audiences always like to view different pictures.  I used comparisons for the audience members to be able to relate to my video.  I used bright and fun colors to show the happy mood and I used black and white pictures mainly for the historic miami to show the age of the school.  The sounds used were to invoke happy feelings.

4) The anxiety invoked when making this video was not knowing where to start and what images/ideas to put into my video.  The only anxiety I have now to show the class and to circulate it on facebook and youtube and those type of venues is just lack of self confidence.  I dont want people to think my video isn’t good or think it was a stupid topic to choose for this inquiry. I think my response on facebook and email will be a positive one because the chi omegas that watch it will be proud of it and happy that I am so proud of Chi Omega too.  I mean I’m sure some people will watch it and think it’s stupid if they don’t like Chi Omega for some particular reason but that is out of my hands.

5) When making this video, having the five components of digital delivery as a part of the video making project made the project alot more difficult.  Of course I would have been the easiest to be told we can make a video about anything we want as long as it answers an inquiry question, no guidelines, and just a due date.  However, after fully completing this project I think it helped to have to think more deeply about this project.  It helped me learn what digital delivery is and the different components are.  If I hadn’t looked at those guidelines and different parts of digital delivery, I never would have thought about how some of the things in my video would effect or not effect certain people.  I think overall it helped to have to think deeper about this project.

6) The body/identity aspect of digital delivery resonated the most with me in this project.  I think my main focus in this video was making my video appealing to my audience.  I wanted all types of audience members, no matter what gender or ethnicity, to enjoy my video.  I wanted to add fun pictures, songs, and videos to engage the audience.  I hope that everyone in the audience learns from my video and when, in the future, they hear about greek life they will think about my video.  I hope they will have a more positive outlook on Greek life if they had a negative outlook on it before viewing my video.

7) The component of digital delivery that was least helpful to me was the access/accessibility component.  Of course I know that some people aren’t able to view this video if they don’t have a computer, but I think when I was making this video I assumed that the people that would be watching it would have access to a computer.  That probably isn’t such a good thing that I assumed that of the audience, but it just happened to be what I did.  I did, however, consider the ethnicity aspect of my audience.  I don’t think with this topic there was much of a way to ensure that Greek life isn’t an “only Caucasian” event, but I hope i explained that anyone can join Greek life if they want to.

Video Reflection Log #4

1) I feel much better about my video today than I did last week.  I have added a lot of new things to my video and I’m thinking about all the things I want to do to finish up my video.

2) My main focus is still delivery.  I want my video to be good and I’m nervous that the audience won’t like it.

3) Since last week I have done a lot to enhance my video.  I have added my pictures, organized them, added slides with facts on them, inserted my voiceovers, clipped and inserted my interview segments, and clipped and organized my POTH video.

4) I feel much better about this project but the thing that is causing me a LOT of stress is all the technical stuff.  Thinking about getting sued and having to follow all those guidelines stress me out because I dont want to forget something and get marked down for it.  I also don’t know if I need to add a disclaimer to the beginning of my video.

5) I am going to finish up everything, record my last voiceovers, and fully rely on my peer review tomorrow.  I really hope I can get some positive feedback about how to enhance my video or get praise for what I’ve done. 🙂

Video Marketing Plan 4/21

1) My purpose is to show the different reasons girls go through sorority rush at Miami as well as showing reasons girls don’t go through it.  I include my own experience and some background on Greek life at Miami University.  My intended audience is anyone that wants to know about sorority life at Miami or an incoming freshman that is considering rushing.

2) I targeted this specific audience because they would relate to this video the most.  My video is mainly about sorority rush, so targeting men would not be a good idea.  I also want it to be a broad audience because anyone could benefit, even if they attended Miami a long time ago and want to see what progress Greek life has made since they left.

3) Three places other than Youtube that I will circulate my video is on Facebook, Attached in emails to friends, and printed out on CDs for people without access to the internet to watch.

4) I will get access to post my video on my facebook because I already have a facebook account.  I will upload it to my facebook account. I will obtain the email addresses of my family and friends and friends of their friends that might be interested in watching this movie.  I will also obtain addresses to mail the cds to them or physically hand them to people that might be interested in watching the video.

5) Once my video is published on youtube, people might decide to make fun of sorority life by doing the same outline of it but making fun of sororities.  I’m willing to take that criticism. I can re-circulate this by telling people to forward it to others, tag them in my video, etc.

6) I honestly haven’t thought about including a disclaimer statement at the beginning of my video.  I think maybe I should consider that.  I’m not quite sure what I would say though.

Video Reflection Log #3

1) Today, I feel a slightly better about my video.  I am stilllll overwhelmed, but it’s slowly getting better after doing the story board and other notes to help set up my video.

2) Delivery is still my most important component I am trying to work on.  I am trying to figure out a good and effective way of delivering my video to the audience.

3) Well, during class on Tuesday, I did the story board and that helped me to know a little bit of where I wanted to take my video.  Then last night I found pictures that coincide with Miami’s history and the history of the sororities and frats here at miami. Then I found Chi o pictures that I wanted to use and put them all in an album.  Then i found more facts about Miami and Chi o, as well as statistics and put that into a word document to reference.  I wrote down all the addresses of the websites so I could give credit to them at the end of the video.  Then I started to put the pictures into the video on imovie.  Today I interviewed two people that didn’t rush.  I will interview two more people (people that did rush) tomorrow.  Then hopefully i’ll be able to start putting it together.  Hopefully, I will get a lot of work done tomorrow in class as well.

4) I am starting to feel a bit more optimistic towards this project.  I am still nervous I won’t get it together in time and I’m also nervous that I will show my video in class and it wont measure up to the other projects by other people.

5) This week I am going to try to finish my interviews, upload them to the computer, start writing a script of what I need to say and start recording the voiceover!

Thursday 4/15

5 Components of Digital Delivery

    1) The types of interaction/reactions I want to get from my audience is a sense of happiness and open mindedness.  I hope the kids in our class that are a part of Greek life will be happy and remember how much they love it.  I also hope the people that aren’t a part of Greek life here at Miami will have a new opinion of it and feel more open minded about it.  As far as people further than our class or Youtube, I hope they feel the same way.

    2) I will have upbeat music, and a happy tone, with bright fun pictures

    3) I hope I have the knowledge to do that.  I need to figure out how the music website works to get the songs I want, but I think i should be able to figure it out.

    4) At the beginning I plan to have some upbeat music and then quiet it down to explain the history of miami and sorority and fraternity life here. Then i will add more upbeat music when describing my sorority, my interview, my interviews of others, and the ending conclusion section. I want to keep an upbeat mood through out the whole video.

    Interactions and the Body

    1) my voice interacts with the audience when I do the voice over.  My voice interacts with the interviewees when I ask the questions.  my body interacts with the interviewees when I listen to their answers. My body interacts with others when I am dancing in my poth video.

    2) I have to physically walk to places on campus to take pictures of sorority stuff and frat houses.  I also have to physically interview people by holding the camera and talking to them to ask the questions.  I also have to upload the pictures to the computer and edit them.  I have to edit the video as well.

    Tues 4/13

    Body/Identity

1 and 2) I intend to promote a happy tone to my video.  I want to include upbeat songs that promote happiness to my audience.  I want to show them what a happy mood the Greek Life here at Miami puts me in. My topic doesn’t really need to include a certain sexual orientation.  It shouldn’t give the idea that only straight people go greek but simply by the nature of the stereotypes of greek life here at miami, some might think that only white, straight people are greek.  I think some sororities are trying to break out of that so maybe I should include a picture of me with my Indian sorority sister to show that not only white people go greek. I could also include statistics of the diversity of greek life at miami. Mainly I will be targeting women because my video is only about sororities but I think it could apply to guys that are interested in Greek life here at Miami too.

2ctd) I want to include all of these things to promote Greek life, not make people think it is a bad thing.  Thats why I want to have an upbeat feeling to it.

    3) I want to include my upbeat happy friends that aren’t the “general stereotype” of Greek life to show the audience that not everyyy girl at miami is the “sorority girl” type. Since my video is about sororities, i think it is okay to mainly have women in it and narrating it.

    4) I wont be using anything that isn’t my own work.  All the pictures will be ones that i took and same with the videos.  However, I will show a video clip from youtube but once it’s there it is free game.

    Your Body and Writing

    1) I usually email, text, facebook, talk, journal, and write memos on the computer.  emailing involves the computer or my phone, texting involves my phone, facebook involves my computer or phone (because my phone has internet), talking involves a cell phone or another person to talk to, journaling involves a pen and my notebook, writing memos on the computer involves the computer.  Most of my types of writing involve a computer or a phone.

    2) my body merges with the technology when I touch it.  I couldn’t write or text or anything without touching the computer or phone or pen.  These skills required are knowing how a computer works, how to type, how to read, how to write, how to text, and how to operate a cell phone.

    3) when making this video my voice is going to be very engaged.  I intend to do the voiceover for the video. My hands with be utilized to hold the camera to video people or upload it onto the computer.

    4) My identity is a white, straight, female, freshman in college. The way people act, dress, talk, interact all contribute to their identity.

    5) My identity is produced through the computer or the things that I write.  I translate my opinions and personality to different forms, whether it be the computer, the cell phone, my journal, etc.

    Video Reflection Log #2 4/8

    1) I really haven’t done that much with my video to be honest this week…it’s so hard to know where to start.  The class periods are realllllly helpful though, especially Tuesdays.  I never really knew how to use imovie before but now that I learned, I feel alot more confident about it.  I’m still not quite sure how to get videos off the internet into my movie but I plan to ask that tomorrow. I’m still really nervous and don’t kno where to start and how to organize my video, but I have visions of it coming together.

2)The distribution I think will be the hardest part.  I’m trying to figure out how to set up my video and how to distribute it to my audience. The other big thing is interaction.  I’m not sure what emotions I want to gain from the audience. The economics of the project worry me too. I’m not exactly sure if putting pictures on my video are copyrighting if I’m the one that took them.  Do i still have to get consent from the people in the pictures?

    3)  I’ve started to think about how I want to set up my video.  I will start the video by explaining what rush and sororities are.  Then I will talk about my own rush experience and the excitement I felt, I will include pictures of me and my sorority sisters on bid day.  Then I will show pictures and explain the events we’ve done as a pledge class and show a video of poth.  Then I will start to talk about how people feel that dont rush or dont get the bid they want from the sorority they want.  I will then insert statistics of dissapointed girls, along with the number of happy girls. Other statistics like amount of girls that rush, etc. I THEN will add videos of interviews of people that didn’t rush and are happy about it and why, girls that did rush and are happy with their bids, and possibly girls that did rush and didn’t get the ones they wanted.  This might be too touchy a subject with them so I might have the non rushees that are happy about that talk about the girls that are reallly disappointed. I will end my video explaining why I rushed, why other girls rush, why some don’t, and why the Greek culture is so prevalent at Miami.

    4) Regarding the movie, i still feel overwhelmed.  At least I have a game plan now but I still dont kno exactly what I want to do or how to get it all done in time.  I think the first step is coming up with a script and just start plugging along.  I’ve picked out some pictures that i want to use and I have ideas of who I want to interview. I need to find out copyrighting stuff about using pictures from online and how to get my poth video to upload into imovie. I’m excited though for this project.  I think it will turn out really cool in the end.

    5) The resources I’m going to draw/pull from this week are the internet to find statistics of miami sorority girls.  I also will start making my interviews so I can upload them into imovie.  I think the most important thing will be to start making my script.

    4/8 Blog

    1) The information and sources I might need to build my video are personal interviews with people, pictures of chi omegas, video from poth, and information about Chi o’s history.  The only sources I will use are other people, the internet, and maybe articles I find about sorority rush.  I will also need music for my video

    2) The people that wrote the songs. The video isn’t owned by anyone because it’s on youtube and facebook.

    3) The songs that I might choose for my background music are copyrighted. I would think the video would be but i learned that it isn’t my fault to use a video that already used these songs.

    4) I need to find a website that I can get music from or email the artists.  This is very unlikely that I will get a response so I have to decide to use them against their will or use alternative music.

    5) I will use the information in my video ethically and fairly by crediting the artists and authors at the end of my video.  I will also say which people were present in the video but I’m not quite sure about this one.  I dont kno if I have to ask people for their permission to use them if they are in pictures I want to put in my video or if I should credit them.  I definitely dont want to put their last names in this because if this is online on youtube I wouldn’t want people to know their full names.

Inquiry 3 prospectus and 4/6 blog prompt

    Prospectus

    1) My video topic is about sororities on the Miami Campus

    2) My level 3 inquiry question is “why is sorority rush so prevalent here at Miami?” this is level three because it isn’t something you can just research in a book and find the answer.  It relies on human opinion and can go many different ways.

    3) I will make my video rhetorical by using different ideas throughout the video.  I will provide pictures and background about Chi Omega, have interviews of girls in sororities as well as not in sororities, and talk in the background.  I will also include information I find in the library or online to enhance my knowledge of this subject.  Hopefully I’ll figure out a way to use cool colors and effects in the video.

    Blog Prompt

My video’s purpose is to make it known to Miami students and even other students that attend different colleges in the country to explain to them why the Greek system is so strong here at Miami.  My audience is mainly other students, as well as any other people that find this topic interesting.

I want my audience to be college students mainly but they will have to have access to a computer to view my video. However, I think the idea of putting it on a dvd for them to see would be effective too. I need to get the word out to people so they will want to view my video.  I’m still trying to come up with ideas of how I want to set up my video but I think it will turn out really well! I’m excited!
